A Seasonal Message from the Soviet Socialist Republic of Llandaff - brought to you by the Commissar for Religious Enjoyment:
Many of us will be making New Years Resolutions as we begin this year; with slightly over twelve hours already lapsed, I am confident many of us have already broken at least some of these resolutions. We often find change incredibly hard, especially change that relates to our behaviour - 'we find that we cannot do the things we want to do, rather we do the things we do not want to do'. This is nothing new, these words echo St Paul's experience almost 2000 years ago. But, don't worry too much if you've already broken your resolution, today is as good a day as any in which to try again. This, I think, is a crucial part of the Christian message "Try Again". There is a recognition that we often all fail to make the right decisions but, by the grace of God, we continue each new year, each new month, each new day. I don't tend to make resolutions, but if I did it would be this: to try again to do good.
He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?
Micah 6:8.
